Industrial pumps play a very important role in the production equipment of chemical industry, petroleum, medicine, food and other industries. In recent years, the technical field of water pumps has been changing constantly, Industrial pumps are developing in the direction of large-scale, high-speed, energy-saving and specialization. It is very necessary for relevant personnel engaged in pump work to learn from existing experience, master new changes, correctly select pumps operated under different technological conditions, and make them meet the requirements of long-term safe operation and energy-saving.
At present, in various fields of national economy, due to unreasonable selection, many pumps are in unreasonable operation, with low operation efficiency and wasting a lot of energy. Some pumps cann't be used at all because of unreasonable selection, or the cost of maintenance increases, and the economic benefit is low. It can be seen that reasonable pump selection is also of great significance to save energy.
The so-called reasonable pump selection is to comprehensively consider the comprehensive technical and economic indicators such as the investment and operation cost of pump units and pumping stations, so as to make them conform to the principles of economy, safety and applicability. Specifically, there are the following aspects:
1) It must meet the requirements of flow and head, that is, the operating point of the pump (the intersection point of the device characteristic curve and the pump performance curve) is often kept in the high-efficiency interval, which saves power and is not easy to damage the machine parts.
2) The selected pump should not only be small in size, light in weight, cheap in cost, but also have good characteristics and high efficiency.
3) It has good anti-cavitation performance, which can not only reduce the excavation depth of the pump house, but also avoid cavitation of the pump, and has stable operation and long service life.
4) The pumping station is built according to the selected pumps, so that the project investment is less and the operation cost is low.
2. Selection steps First

list the basic data:

1. Characteristics of medium:medium name, specific gravity, viscosity, corrosivity, toxicity, etc.
2. The particle diameter and content of solids contained in the medium.

4. Required flow
General industrial pumps in the process flow can ignore the leakage in the pipeline system, but must consider the impact of process changes on the flow rate. If agricultural pumps use open channels to deliver water, leakage and evaporation must also be considered.
5. Pressure:pressure of suction tank, pressure of drainage tank and pressure difference (head loss) in pipeline system.
6. Pipe system data (pipe diameter, length, type and number of pipe accessories, geometric elevation from suction tank to pressure tank, etc.).
If necessary, the device characteristic curve should also be made.
When designing and arranging pipelines, the following matters should be paid attention to:
A, reasonable choice of pipe diameter, pipe diameter is large, under the same flow rate, liquid flow speed is small, resistance loss is small, but high price, pipe diameter is small, will lead to resistance loss sharply increased, make the selected pump head increase, distribution power increase, cost and operation cost increase. Therefore, it should be considered comprehensively from the technical and economic perspectives.
B, the discharge pipe and its pipe joints should consider the maximum pressure that can be borne.
C, the pipeline layout should be arranged as straight as possible, minimize the accessories in the pipeline and minimize the length of the pipeline. When it is necessary to turn, the bending radius of the elbow should be 3 ~ 5 times of the diameter of the pipeline, and the angle should be greater than 90 ℃ as much as possible.
D, pump discharge side must be installed valves (ball valve or globe valve, etc.) and check valve. Valve is used to adjust the operating point of the pump, and the non-return valve can prevent the pump from reversing when the liquid flows backwards, and make the pump avoid the blow of water hammer. When the liquid flows backwards, it will produce huge reverse pressure and damage the pump.)

A If the minimum, normal and maximum flow rates have been given in the production process, the maximum flow rate shall be considered.
B If only the normal flow rate is given in the production process, a certain allowance should be considered.
For large flow and low head pumps with ns> 100, the flow margin is 5%, for small flow and high head pumps with ns<50, the flow margin is 10%, for pumps with 50 ≤ ns ≤ 100, the flow margin is also 5%, and for pumps with poor quality and bad operating conditions, the flow margin should be 10%.
C If the basic data only gives weight flow, it should be converted into volume flow.
